Cataloging is a key function in music libraries, but if you are new to working with music materials, it can be hard to know where to start. Providing description and access to music resources involves specialized terminology, detailed MARC encoding, multiple
controlled vocabularies, and complex classification issues. In this eLearning bundle, ALA and MLA (Music Library Association) are collaborating to provide a series of four events that will give you a proper orientation to music cataloging and take
you through key areas.
Events included in this bundle are:
- Introduction to Music Cataloging: A 4-week eCourse starting on Monday, January 5, 2026.
- Music Cataloging with Library of Congress Vocabularies: A 4-week eCourse starting on Monday, February 2, 2026.
- Music Cataloging with Library of Congress Classification: A 4-week eCourse starting on Monday, March 2, 2026.
- Using the New RDA Toolkit to Catalog Music: A 2-part webinar taking place Wednesday, April 1 and Thursday, April 2, 2026 from 2:30pm Eastern to 4:00pm Eastern each session.
You can purchase registration for these events individually or as a bundle.
