On-Demand Webinar: Best of Core at ALA Annual Conference: A Strategic Plan to Live By

Strategic planning is a routine part of library leadership, but what if you took the ordinary planning process and made it transformative? Learn how one library system developed a strategic plan to live by using the Harwood approach and leveraging staff and community input, creating data-driven measures of achievement and powerful outcomes, and engaging staff at all levels to take ownership. This panel presentation will include staff from the strategic planning process who will share success stories from PLS's strategic planning process, tips on how to craft your own strategic plan to impact your community, and ways in which staff from the administrator to frontline can lead and accomplish organizational goals. Learn how one document can help tell your library’s story, help streamline budgeting, and empower staff at all levels. Discover partners in and outside your organization who will help implement and carry out this plan beyond the walls of the library.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this webinar, the attendees will be able to:

  • Create their own data-driven strategic plan unique to their community;
  • Identify partners and stakeholders to help build, implement, and carry out the goals of the strategic plan;
  • Establish ways to measure impact and analyze results of the strategic plan; and
  • Tell the library's story through the strategic planning process.

Who Should Attend: Administrators and library leaders, or anyone involved in the strategic planning process. The presenters share their perspective from a public library system, but strategies can be implemented across different library types, including library associations.
