Let’s Talk About It: Developing Training Programs for Difficult Topics

Designing effective staff training is challenging, especially when tackling difficult topics. With thoughtful planning, libraries can develop training that is engaging, meaningful, and responsive to real needs. Learn how Plano Public Library in Texas transformed its training and created peer-led, informative sessions to share information, encourage dialogue, and ultimately empower staff. In this on-demand webinar, you’ll learn ideas for developing a training model, how to implement training with ongoing assessment and adaptation, and best practices for the maintenance of training tools and staff knowledge.

  • Evaluate benefits, challenges, and key training needs in order to select a training model that engages staff;
  • Create and implement training using relevant instructional design concepts to maximize valuable time and participant learning; and
  • Maintain training programs by evaluating participant feedback, evolving content for dynamic issues, and designing ongoing refreshers.

Panelists

Jaime Eastman (she/her)Jaime Eastman (she/her) is a senior public services librarian at Plano Public Library in Texas. She is also Family Place coordinator for the Harrington Library location. Jaime currently serves as a board member of the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) and a member of the Larson Mystery Grant Committee. She prepares and presents a variety of programming and training for patrons and staff, and enjoys connecting others with the resources they need for success.

 

Meredith Del Monte (she/her)Meredith Del Monte (she/her) is a senior public services librarian at Plano Public Library, where she regularly develops and presents programming for both youth and adult audiences. Meredith is also active in developing training for library staff. She identified and developed a program series for the Google productivity suite to support skills development for job seekers.
