Scalable Tech Loaning Practices in Your Library

In this YALSA Educational Webinar, New York Public Library staff will present programs currently in practice to loan equipment in various library branches in the city. Currently, NYPL patrons can check out one of five types of STEAM Discovery Kits at 30 of our branches, which include books and STEAM toys and tools such as telescopes, coding robots, and engineering games aimed at elementary and middle school students. In the flagship Teen Center, teens can borrow overnight camera kits after they complete some training and pass an assessment, and they can also engage with music and video production equipment onsite through classes and programs at the flagship Teen Recording Studio and Media Lab.

Learning Outcomes

Attendees to this educational webinar will learn about our different budget levels for each project and how staff have used the ILS as a tool in their tech loaning practices. This behind-the-scenes look can help inform attendees how they can remix these methods to work for their own library systems.
