Best of Core Forum: Anti-Racist Acquisitions: Interrogating Processes

The process and policies of acquiring materials are often overlooked when considering developing an inclusive and anti-racist collection. This presentation will reflect upon how Whiteness manifests in library processes for acquiring materials and is grounded in Diane Gusa’s White Institutional Presence (WIP) framework. This presentation will offer questions participants can use to interrogate their own processes and policies, and will engage participants in small group discussions.

By the end of this webinar, participants will:

  • Gain a basic understanding of Diane Gusa’s White Institutional Presence Framework;
  • Learn questions to use to interrogate Whiteness within their own processes and policies for acquiring materials and within approval plans; and
  • Practice reflecting upon and responding to the questions.
