Youth Voice and Media Making

Course Description:

Learn how you can use the Youth Media-Making Toolkit created by CIRCLE (Center for Information & Research on Civic Learning and Engagement) and The Lamp with teens to help them realize the power of their voice in public conversations. Members of YALSA’s Teen Civic Engagement Committee will discuss how they used toolkit activities in a variety of ways with teens. Teens from the Ventress Memorial Library in Marshfield, MA will share their experiences creating media around democratic participation.

Instructors:

Rachel McDonald is the Teen Services Coordinator for King County Library System in Western Washington. She is the current chair of YALSA’s Teen Civic Engagement Committee and is passionate about working with teens to reduce barriers to their participation in civic life and democracy.
