PLA 2022 Virtual Conference logo. Outreach services focus on providing equitable access to typically underserved populations with barriers to traditional modes of using libraries. These unique populations experience barriers related to income, physical ability, mental health status, and beyond. This presentation will guide understanding toward providing safe, appropriate, compassionate service based on healthy boundaries with these populations.

Learning Outcomes

At the conclusion of this on-demand webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Identify boundaries and know why they are important to set and maintain;
  • Recognize aspects of Outreach service that require boundary setting; and
  • Explore tools that support communication and healthy boundaries with Outreach service populations.

Rachel Beckman is a 2020 MLIS Graduate from the University of Washington and has worked in libraries and outreach services for the past 5 years. Rachel works as a Librarian for the Oak Harbor and Coupeville branches of Sno-Isle Libraries, located on Whidbey Island.
