Learning Outcomes

At the conclusion of this on-demand webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Review and revise job postings and recruitment strategies to make these tools more inclusive and attractive to transgender and nonbinary applicants;
  • Evaluate their library’s spaces, policies, and practices to make their agency more welcoming to transgender and nonbinary staff; and
  • Create a training plan to ensure current and future staff and other library stakeholders understand what gender identity is, why it matters in the library, and why having transgender and nonbinary staff is beneficial to the community.

Panelists

Elsworth Carman is the Director of the Iowa City Public Library, and has worked in libraries in Washington, DC; Oak Park, IL; and Ocean County, NJ. With a career-long focus on hospitality and access, Carman has extensive experience presenting on and writing about transgender-inclusive books for youth, serving queer populations, creating welcoming public spaces, and hospitality in libraries.
