Learning Outcomes
At the conclusion of this on-demand webinar, participants will be able to:
- Be able to identify three alternatives to dumpsters for removal of weeded library materials;
- Create a weeding plan for both a large project and for ongoing, regular collection maintenance; and
- Communicate their weeding plan to prepare staff and patrons for a weeding project in three ways.
Who Should Attend
This on-demand webinar is intended for public directors and administrators; collection development librarians; library trustees and board members; and Friends of the Library groups. All attendees should be familiar with the general concept of weeding/deselection.
Panelists
Holly Hibner is the Adult Services coordinator at the Plymouth District Library in Plymouth, Mich. She has a mild obsession with weeding (ok, maybe not so mild), and can usually be found in the stacks taking inventory. She also loves all things techie and the challenge of a good reference question. Holly is the co-author with Mary Kelly of the book Making a Collection Count and the popular blog "Awful Library Books."
Mary Kelly is the Youth Services librarian at the Lyon Township Public Library in South Lyon, Mich. Mary is passionate about collection quality, and can be found digging through the stacks searching for that odd title or hunched over the computer looking at spreadsheets. She also molds young minds through Toddler Disco. Mary is the co-author with Holly Hibner of the book Making a Collection Count and the popular blog "Awful Library Books."
