This is the first session in the Crash Course: Inclusive and Accessible Library Experiences for People with Disabilities series, which is available for registration as a bundle.
Description
In this session, the instructor will cover:
- An overview of disability history
- Medical vs. social model of disability
- Types of disabilities
- Visible vs. invisible disabilities
- Neurodiversity introduction
The session will include breakout discussions and reflections about exposure and experience with disability in personal and professional life.
About the Instructor
Librarian, author, trainer, administrator, teacher, and consultant Renee Grassi is an advocate for equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in libraries, schools, and communities. As a neurodivergent librarian herself, Renee has worked in public libraries for nearly twenty years, developing award-winning library initiatives that welcome and support disabled residents and their families and caregivers.
