Advanced eCourse: AI Leadership in Libraries

An ALA Continuing Education and SJSU iSchool Advanced eCourse

This course is for library professionals and staff with previous experience with AI who wish to develop leadership skills around machine learning technologies in their libraries. Students will reinforce their knowledge of machine learning concepts and concerns around this technology so that they can be instrumental in moving their organizations into the AI age while minimizing risk.

By taking this course, participants will:

  • Develop practical leadership skills for AI-related projects.
  • Reinforce existing understanding of machine learning.
  • Develop strategic opportunities and risks for libraries posed by AI.

M Ryan Hess is Director of Strategic Library Services and Communications for SCELC, an academic library consortium composed of over 230 libraries across the United States. He is also a Lecturer at San Jose State University's iSchool. He speaks internationally on topics of digital literacy; web3 and blockchain; and artificial intelligence. He was the founder of Bay Area Library UX. Previously, he was Digital Initiatives Manager at Palo Alto City Library, delivering award-winning library experiences around technology. He also served as the Digital Services Coordinator at DePaul University Library and was a former market researcher at Adobe Systems.
