Show Up for Our Libraries: How to Protect Federal Library Funding

Congress will soon begin writing appropriations bills, which will set funding levels for government programs in fiscal year 2026. Library supporters must Show Up for Our Libraries and protect library funding.

Federal funding for libraries is under severe threat. A March 14 executive order directed the elimination of the only federal agency dedicated to funding library services, the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). However, Congress writes the laws and can decide to overturn the executive order and continue funding IMLS.

In this webinar, ALA policy experts will share how we are fighting back, how library supporters across the country can engage with their Congressmembers, and why it’s urgent for everyone to Show Up for Our Libraries in defense of federal library funding.
