Project Management for a More Effective School Library

As school librarians, we know that a well-run library is a basic component of an effective school. We can’t attract students with a dysfunctional library, and if we can’t attract students, we are at risk of losing our funding, and students are at risk of losing their library. In this event, we’ll look at the fundamental techniques of project management and explore how they can be applied in a school library environment. Using the same principles used by large corporations, small businesses, and consultants, you can turn your library around to get patrons through your doors and happy to return.

This event is offered as part of ALA Learning's Summer of School Library Learning.

After participating in this event, learners will:

  • Have a basic understanding of different analysis techniques for library assets.
  • Understand how to start analyzing data to identify and use it to prioritize their library’s needs.
  • Understand how to start developing a management plan to assess and address the school community’s needs.
  • Understand how to develop resources to address the tasks in the management plan.
