Hands-On AI Literacy Programs for Youth and Teens
In this YALSA webinar, we will present an open-source AI literacy program that we developed through a grant from IMLS. This program was successfully implemented in three public libraries across Michigan, Maryland, and San Diego, with a mission to empower economically underserved youth. The program provides youth with core knowledge about AI and its social consequences. It also encourages them to use their own unique strengths and resources to make a positive impact on their communities. Through participatory design methodologies, youth co-create AI solutions that address community challenges and envision how to use AI for their future jobs and local industries.
In the webinar, we will share our experiences and insights from hosting AI literacy workshops in the three public libraries. We will also share practical approaches for engaging youth and discuss how to implement and adopt the AI literacy program in your library.
