Tools for Locating Primary Sources in Archives and Online

There are dozens and dozens of library resources available to help a librarian or a researcher located primary sources for historical research. This webinar is aimed at those relatively new to reference wok around primary sources, and will cover approaches to the reference interview that help focus the discussion, online and print tools to uncover primary sources, and helpful tips for organizing and citing primary sources.

By the end of this webinar, the participant will be able to:

  • Assess the researcher's needs regarding primary sources
  • Find primary sources held within the library's collection
  • Direct the researcher to primary sources held elsewhere (and/or online)
  • Guide the researcher in citing primary sources

The instructor, Steven A. Knowlton, is Librarian for History and African American Studies at Princeton University. In addition to his work guiding students and researchers to primary sources, he has published a number of award-winning papers based on his own research using archival sources.
